GREENSBORO, N.C.—A mother and daughter enjoyed an evening out seeing traditional Chinese culture come to life through classical Chinese dance and song performed by Shen Yun Performing Arts at the War Memorial Auditorium on Friday Sept. 4.
“I think it’s breathtaking. I recommend this to all ages,” said Desiree, a government employee, who was at the show with daughter Antoinette, a student.
Antoinette agreed. “It’s really great. I really enjoyed myself. We saw it on-line and decided to go. … It’s really breathtaking and exciting.”
Desiree enjoyed the chopstick dance, saying: “That was beautiful, that was exciting-exhilarating. They have a lot of energy. So I really enjoyed them."
Antoinette particularly liked Welcoming Spring in which the warmth of spring is seen as a welcome blessing after winter’s cold in this festive, floral scene. Quick footwork, crisp movements, and stunning bursts of color form the basis of these woman’s fan dance and its sense of sheer delight.
For Desiree, the program Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, deeply touched her soul.
A father is persecuted to death for his belief in his spiritual practice, a reality for many families in modern day China.
“For me, the part when the family was torn apart, basically, at the end just going to heaven ... all coming together at some point. Very touching, moving.”
Antoinette had a message about the show for others: “Take your entire family. Don't’ miss this. You have to come.”
Desiree added: “It’s a very exciting, moving and breathtaking experience. Very colorful. I think everyone will enjoy it. I would recommend it to any of my friends.”
Tenor was ‘Exceptional’
Also in the audience on Friday night were Keith, who works for the Department of Veteran Affairs and his wife Mia, who is with the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Keith said Shen Yun was outstanding. “I particularly like the chopstick dancers [Mongolian Chopsticks], and also the drummers. Overall, I like the vibrant colors, the enthusiasm and energy. Everything is excellent.”
Mia also liked the drummers and the colors, saying: “Everything is beautiful, it was really good."
On a scale of one to ten, Keith said he would rate Shen Yun at a 12, and Mia agreed.
Keith also commented on the tenor, Tian Ge, saying that he was exceptional. “I know good singing when I hear it,” he said.
