Last year Wye Oak released their debut album If Children to a chorus of indifference on the British side of the Atlantic (being way ahead of the game we of course gave it 4/5).  This second effort arrives with a little more fanfare, having been likened favourably to the mighty Yo La Tengo and My Morning Jacket by US reviewers. It’s a cleaner sounding record than If Children and lacks a bit of the warm fuzzy distortion the debut had, but this is the sound of a band maturing and for that they can’t be faulted. Make no mistake, Wye Oak can still make incredibly pretty music as evidenced on ‘Siamese’ and the string-laden ‘I Want For Nothing’.
