SYDNEY—Rising star Lisa Mitchell is preparing to take on a Little Pattie classic as Australia's original teen singing sensation is inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Patricia "Little Pattie" Amphlett will be inducted by cousin Chrissy Amphlett of The Divinyls at the gala event at Melbourne's Forum Theatre on Thursday night.
Mitchell, who rose to fame on the fourth season of Australian Idol, will do her own version of Little Pattie's He's My Blonde Headed, Stompie Wompie, Real Gone Surfer Boy.
The song was released in 1963 when Little Pattie was just 14-years-old and went to number two in the Australian music charts, behind The Beatles' I Want to Hold Your Hand.
"I really like the song ... I'm honoured to be asked to do it," Mitchell told AAP.
"I'm going to do a bit of a different version, it's a bit slower."
Mitchell was just 16 when the spotlight first shone on her and at 19 has just released her first album Wonder.
She said she was chosen to do the cover because both she and Little Pattie entered the music industry as teenagers.
"She was even younger than I was. I can't imagine what it would be like doing that when you're 14," she said.
"I haven't met her yet but I hope to tomorrow night."
Little Pattie is one of five iconic Australian artists who will be recognised by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), along with Kev Carmody, John Paul Young, Mental As Anything and The Dingoes.
Mental As Anything will be inducted by Roy Slaven and perform one of their biggest hits, while The Dingoes will perform together for the first time in 30 years after reuniting in Melbourne from all over the world.
Missy Higgins will induct Carmody and join him onstage for a performance with Paul Kelly, John Butler, Dan Kelly, Kutcha and Natalie Pa'apa'a.
To close the night, two of the biggest names from the Countdown era will reunite on stage as Ian `Molly' Meldrum inducts 70s superstar John Paul Young.
The annual event will be hosted by radio personalities Jono and Dano and will be broadcast on VH1 on Friday August 28 at 8.30pm, followed by an encore airing on the Nine Network on Saturday August 29 at 2pm.
Previous inductees have included AC/DC, INXS, John Farnham, Rolf Harris, Nick Cave and Olivia Newton-John.
