I liked the article you published on home births ("Illegal Childbirth Sometimes Safer" Aug. 8, 2009) with CPMs or CNMs.

I have given birth to two children and the first was in a hospital, done the way they dictated, and it was unpleasant, expensive and very mind-bendingly painful.

When my baby son accidentally urinated in the doctor’s face, I was instantly bonded to him, because that’s what I felt the doctor deserved.

My second child was born at my home with the assistance of a CNM after I studied books on different child birth methods. My husband and best friend were also there to assist.

The child birth was quicker, much less painful and the cleanest (small amount of blood) child birth that the CNM had ever been a part of. She used warm wash cloths and massage to help stretch the birth opening.

The entire cost was $800 which we paid on the spot.

There was no contest—childbirth at home is much better with a prepared mind, prepared environment and CPM or CNM, who is experienced.
