Participants used Autodesk’s Sketchbook Pro 2010 as the standardized workspace. First place went to Emily Albinski, from Wading River, New York, for the design of a modular phone. It includes a “core” phone that can transfer to either a touch screen or a netbook shell.
More than 800 designs were submitted to the competition. Among the more honorable mentions was a design entitled “Morph,” which features a flexible display that can be molded to be worn around a wrist. Another was the “HiFi,” which incorporated a touch screen phone that can convert to a headphone.
“Where better to get inspired than from the imaginations of mobile phone users, ranging from students to professionals,” said Ehtisham Rabbani, vice president of product strategy and marketing for LG Mobile Phones in a press release.
Rabbani added that the submissions help LG to look deeper into the future of the mobile phone industry, and also to “share in the thrill of discovering it with our consumers as a guiding light.”
