WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y.—Bronze winner of the third annual New Tang Dynasty TV International Vocal Competition Yi Cherng Lin saw the Shen Yun Performing Arts show on Aug. 2. “The show is very impressive, no wonder it is taking stage all over the world. All the pieces are original; very awe-inspiring.”
Lin is a professional singer from Taiwan and this was his first time seeing the show. He thought that the performance was very diverse and each piece is positioned very close to the next. “Since the beginning, I thought the speed was very fast, fluid, incredibly good. Story after story, the show was very fascinating. It really grabs the audience’s attention,” he said.
“The stories in the show are expressed through dance. The dancers are absolutely superb and the orchestra accompaniment makes each story flash before my mind. The emcees do a great job announcing each piece, which allows the audience to absorb and understand the stories."
Lin said Shen Yun was fantastic. The high expertise of the dancers evoked great emotion to the stories they portrayed and the beautiful backdrops made the essence of the show deeper and more profound.
“When a person comes to see a show, they hope to fill their hearts full then go home. The fact that the show is so new, so easily makes the audience understand, and be touched demonstrates that the music is extremely impressive.”
Speaking about the competition, Lin said “there were many talented contestants at the vocal competition. I think the best thing is that people came, not to get an award, but to share our singing experience and technique with other performers. Through the process, I felt like we have all grown. This is the greatest award I got out of the competition.”
Lin said that the contestants from Shen Yun were very impressive. “All of the Shen Yun musician's voices are all very wonderful. Shen Yun has toured so many countries around the world. They are extremely good vocalists and have world-class performance experience,” he said.
The reason for Shen Yun performers excellence is due to their attention to detail in technique and vocal control, Lin said. “They know how to use their voices to express certain emotions.”
Shen Yun will be performing two shows in Birmingham, Ala., on Aug. 21 and 22, at the Concert Hall, Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Then, a five-run show will be held at Washington D.C.'s Kennedy Center Opera House from Aug. 26 to 30.
