Coldplay Headed to Simpson's Springfield

Fans will soon see how Chris Martin and his band Coldplay look with bright yellow skin as they lend their likenesses to an upcoming episode of The Simpsons. The band will be part of the show’s 21st season in an episode in which Homer receives a financial windfall and splurges by hiring the band for a private concert for Bart.

Hollywood Stars Celebrate Young Storytellers

The nonprofit, “The Young Storytellers Foundation” (YSF) will host its annual outdoor festival “Storypalooza” this fall. Scheduled to appear are Ted Danson, Tate Donovan, Anthony La Paglia, Zachary Levi, Ben McKenzie, Josh Radnor, Jason Ritter, Mary Steenburgen, and Henry Winkler. YSF is a nonprofit organization that has developed an outreach program for elementary schools in need. Over an eight-week period, each student participant is coached on writing a short screenplay, which is then performed by professional actors upon its completion. The star-studded event will feature the performance of some of these screenplays and will be held on September 26 in Santa Monica, CA.


Viacom Earnings Plunge

Media conglomerate Viacom reported a huge 32% drop in earnings for the second quarter. Pointing to a slump in ad sales, video game sales, and box office receipts, the parent company of networks such as MTV and Comedy Central, purveyor of the video game Rock Band, and owner of film studio Paramount Pictures also saw reasons for optimism. Advertising revenue is reported to be on the upswing from the previous quarter and recent box office releases, such as the latest Transformers movie, enjoyed record sales.Viacom’s stock price fell in light of this announcement on Tuesday.

Central Park Film Festival Set

A popular New York event, The Central Park Film Festival, will take place over August 18-22. This will be the seventh year for the free event and will feature popular pictures such as Sex and the City, Shaft, Ocean’s Eleven, and Twilight. The event is sponsored by Bloomberg.
