I don't know about you, but for years I wouldn't think of wearing pink. I thought it was a very insipid color. Then, I saw a suit in the windows of Galleries Lafayette in Manhattan and fell in love with it. I told myself it was more coral than pink, but it really was pink. Every time I wore it I got so many compliments. Everyone told me pink was definitely my color. Drunk with success, I bought more and more pink. Now, I wear pink quite often and like it very much.

I think the way to wear pink is to keep things simple and streamlined. Stay away from anything too frilly or girly. And don't go for the monochromatic look—head to toe pink. That's too much of a good thing.

I have a pink alligator purse and a pair of pink suede shoes, plus pink gloves. But I don't wear them all together. I'll wear the shoes and bag together but not with the pink suit. I have a black suit that I love the pink purse with as an accent.
I once saw a pink mink coat. I have one word of advice: don't. It was such a pretty shade of pink, and it was tempting, but I realized this was not a wise move.

There are a lot of shades of pink from shocking to pastel. I think you have to try things on to see which shade looks best on you.

Of course, your makeup has to be keyed to the shade, too. If you don't ordinarily wear it, keep a pink lipstick on hand for the times you wear something pink. But don't wear a very light, whitish pink lipstick unless you're very young and very pale. It can make you look washed out.

With these words, try pink and feel like springtime.
