Falun Gong: A Decade of Courage
July 20 marked the 10th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP’s) persecution of Falun Gong. The last 10 years have been both remarkable and sorrowful. With the popularity of the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party,” more people have come to see the true nature of the CCP. I do not think the persecution will end until the CCP is disintegrated.

First of all, only the CCP has an incentive to persecute Falun Gong. Falun Gong is being practiced by people in 114 countries and regions. Its benefits to health and morality are self-evident. What it offers is something that all normal societies want.

When Jiang Zemin decided to persecute Falun Gong, he did it out of jealousy and fear. Jiang was jealous that Falun Gong had attracted over 100 million faithful practitioners.

What Jiang feared most was the tremendous moral and spiritual power of Falun Gong. Only the most evil people and political party would choose to oppose morality and a beneficial practice that promotes Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance. Falun Gong is practiced the world over—and only the Chinese government decided to persecute it.

Persecution Requires Resources

Secondly, only the CCP has the resources to initiate and sustain a campaign against Falun Gong. Necessary ingredients of the persecution include arrests, litigation, court appearances and hearings, slanderous media reports, special agents, labor camps and prisons, and an entire system of foreign affairs that can threaten and make deals with foreign governments to silence them.

All of this requires economic support and an enforcement system, including police and the military. In other words, the entire national machine would have to follow orders blindly, without any checks and balances, to successfully execute the persecution.

For the purpose of executing the persecution, Jiang Zemin established the “610 Office” which operates above both the judicial and the executive branches of government. That is why I contend that only the CCP has the means to comprehensively persecute Falun Gong.

In a normal society, independent media can expose such abuses of power, attorneys can defend those who are wronged, courts can rule based on the law, and such a persecution could not happen.

Furthermore, I definitely do not think the CCP will change its decision to continue to carry out the persecution of Falun Gong. For the CCP to correct its mistakes there would have to be a mechanism for such a correction.

The CCP has completely abandoned its sense of right or wrong, empathy, courtesy, or shame. Its one-party system also does not allow for any checks and balances within the regime. As such, it is impossible for the CCP to suddenly develop a conscience and stop the persecution.

In addition, changing its position on the persecution would mean that those in charge of the persecution would be brought to justice. That’s why the CCP can never change its position.

The Perpetrators as Victims

The persecution against Falun Gong hurts more than the practitioners. The perpetrators are the real victims. In order to carry out such a brutal persecution, the CCP must eliminate all kindness among the general public.

Those who believe in karmic retribution know that the perpetrators will face a tragic end. Falun Gong practitioners publicize the facts to discourage them from committing crimes and receiving retribution.

The persecution against Falun Gong also hurts all Chinese people, since the persecution is predicated on the abuse of law and the degeneration of morality.

When a society does not follow the law, anyone can become a victim. For example, to suppress protestors who refused to be relocated in the government’s massive urbanization efforts, the government often labeled the protestors Falun Gong practitioners. The police could then beat or even kill these people without consequences.

The CCP also knows that if all members of the public felt a strong sense of morality, they would reject the brutal persecution. That is why it tries to destroy the morality of the Chinese people. Because of this, Chinese society is often marred with tragedy—such as deaths due to substandard construction or poisonous foods. This threatens the health and well-being of everyone in China.

To end the atrocities resulting from the CCP’s crimes, and given that the CCP will not change by itself, we must disintegrate the CCP. This issue has been explained very clearly in the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party”. It is a point worth repeating on the 10th anniversary of the persecution against Falun Gong.
