Exiled American Uyghur leader Rebiya Kadeer called on the United States government to break its silence and to strongly condemn China’s actions regarding the Xinjiang riots. Rebiya warned that the Chinese regime may execute Uyghurs who were arrested after the riots.

BBC Chinese news reported that Rebiya said that she hopes the United States will stop regarding the Uyghurs’ predicament as trivial and speak up against the suppression. She believes the government’s current apathy will only allow Beijing to continue its unrestrained suppression.

According to Rebiya, China is still arresting Uyghurs. She is appealing to the international community to conduct an open investigation on the violence in Urumqi and the suppression by the Chinese authorities.

Rebiya is the president of the World Uyghur Congress. The Chinese embassy in the United States issued a statement to censure Rebiya and her supporters. Chinese authorities regard her as an engineer and instigator of the July 5 riot in Urumqi, Xinjiang.

Rebiya has criticized the communist regime for manipulating the media to slander her and Uyghurs.
