Ms. Deng’s case has drawn nationwide attention since it broke in May 2009. According to information disclosed by Chinese blogger, the regime’s Ministry of Public Security initially want to treat the case as murder, but backed down under public pressure. The trial was conducted on June 16 and concluded with a verdict of guilty but exempt from punishment , and leaving the issue of the attempted rape untouched. Deng is a hero to many Chinese, including many bloggers, but she disappeared from public eye soon after the trial.
The two concerned Chinese bloggers, Wang Lihong and Butcher (alias), recently tried to contact Deng Yujiao. They first went to Deng’s grandfather’s home in Badong County, and learned from the grandfather that Deng was in Wuhan Mental Hospital.
Ms. Wang told SOH that Deng’s grandfather made contact with Deng in the hospital, then “my friend talked to Deng, we asked where she is. Deng initially said it was not convenient to say, and my friend asked whether she wanted us to visit her. Deng said she has no problem with that but the hospital may not agree.”
And in the end of their conversation, the two blogger got confirmation from Deng that she was in Wuhan Mental Hospital at the time.
They went to Badong County to contact the local authorities on July 4, but were given very vague comments. The Wuhan Mental Hospital denied that Deng had been hospitalized for treatment. Currently, Deng is pretty much in detention and has lost her freedom.
An Epoch Times reporter interviewed the two bloggers. Ms. Wang said she got the impression that Deng was “a bit down.” Wang also said, that they could clearly see they were followed while they were in Badong County.
Wang thought the local regime was nervous and scared about the consequence and influence of Deng's case, and was trying to isolate Deng Yujiao. She said, “I think the local officials fear continued attention from the public, and fear that Deng may reveal more information.”
