CHICAGO–The big news about the Sears Tower is more than its change of name—which officially happened Thursday—the skyscraper is going green.

Now called the Willis Tower, the tallest building in the Western world at 110 stories, will be even taller as soon as wind turbines are installed on its roof. In addition, the building will be retrofitted with solar panels and upgrades in cooling, heating and lighting, according to media reports.

The $350 million in renovations will include a first floor education center to introduce the public to its energy-saving changes.

The Willis Group Holdings, an insurance brokerage, is renting three floors of the once-called Sears Towers, and part of the deal included changing the building’s name. Sears vacated the tower almost 20 years ago.
