SANTIAGO, Chile—Mr. Ke, Taiwan’s Economic and Cultural Affairs officer in Chile, came to watch the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts show with his wife on Saturday at the Teletón Theater in Santiago.
The two were highly impressed with the show and its presentation of traditional Chinese culture.
“Very good, very good; Westerners can understand traditional culture through classical Chinese dance,” said Mr. Ke.
“Everything was performed well.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based dance company which seeks to breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture that thrived before decades of suppression by the Chinese communist state. It provides audiences with an experience of sublime beauty.
Mr. and Mrs. Ke expanded their comments on the last performance of the show, Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope, a piece which shows that the cosmic and earthly merge in a powerful vision of renewal. The piece revisits a theme explored in the opening dance, that the glorious culture of antiquity was brought by higher lives as a means to sustain the moral integrity of humankind.
Mr. Ke said this performance tells people to be compassionate and that evil cannot triumph over the righteous.
“At the end the righteous and good will prevail,” Mr. Ke said.
Adding to her husband’s point, Mrs. Ke said, “Truth can win against evil mindsets.”
Mrs. Ke said that watching the show made her realize that “The Buddha Fa has no boundary,” and praised the high quality in the performances of the dance company, which includes artists that practice Falun Gong meditation.
“I feel that Falun Gong practitioners and these performers are very firm in their faith in a freedom of belief. You can feel from the performance that evil can never win against righteous and that compassion will be repaid with compassion,” Mrs. Ke said.
“I could see that every performer was very carefully trained; what each one performed, the difference between Classical Chinese dance and Western dance. Chinese dance is very spectacular. And then the show also promotes prophecies that are introduced to Westerners to understand our Chinese culture. I think this is deserving of much respect,” she said, while thanking the Shen Yun for portraying the traditional Chinese culture so well.
Shen Yun will be staging one more show in Santiago before going back to Argentina, this time in Cordoba, for 3 more shows starting on July 15.
