LIMA—Peru's President Alan Garcia said Tuesday he will shuffle his cabinet this weekend as opposition parties demand a shake-up following deadly clashes last month between police and indigenous groups.

Garcia and his cabinet have been heavily criticized for botching negotiations with protesters who were demanding the government strike down laws designed to open up their ancestral lands to foreign mining and oil companies.

At least 34 people died after the protests turned violent in the worst crisis of Garcia's term.
