BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—The atmosphere was one of heightened expectation; great wonder, and delight of seeing an authentic and traditional Chinese culture show on South American soil. The packed Buenos Aires Auditorio Belgrano theater hosted the Shen Yun Performing Arts Company, based in New York, for their seventh stunning performance.
Ms. Ruiz Ferrier, a professor of political science, and Mr. Pedicino, a computer engineer watched with great anticipation as the stories of China's 5,000-year history unfolded—from past to present—through dance, song and music.
“Spectacular,” Ms. Ruiz Ferrier said with a delighted smile. “I thought it was beautiful, it conveys the philosophy of a thousand year Buddhist tradition. I thought, at the level of the show, esthetic, precious, spectacular, I would recommend it, I would see it again.”
Mr. Pedicino was thrilled to have bought tickets and said, “Truthfully, I loved the music of the show, on another level, the dances, the colors, it's something that I have never seen here in Argentina. I was really taken with it.”
The artists hope to bring ancient wisdom about virtue and moral behavior, which was not lost on the Buenos Aires audience.
“Yes, truthfully, a unique spiritual level, truthfully, very spiritual,” Mr. Pedicino shared.
“On different levels, the first thing that I loved was the music, then it was the colors that were utilized, and then the part when the gods came down to earth [The Five Millennia Begin]. That I liked a lot."
This is the first time for Mr. Pedicino to see a cultural show of this kind, a show whose scenes were underscored by a live orchestra that embraced Western and Eastern instruments.
Both audience members are avid theater patrons, and Mr. Pedicino said he would absoltuley recommend Shen Yun to everyone he knew.
Ms. Ruiz Ferrier shared, “He invited me as a surprise, he told me that he was going to take me to theatre show that I was going to love. It was much more than what I could have imagined. The truth is, I interpreted everything as one message. Therefore, I enjoyed it tremendously.”
After a pause, she continued, “Its complex, but I didn’t think that the colors were more outstanding, than the dances. It was about the ups and downs of life and the hope for the future. It seems to me a practical philosophy. A show that conveys a practical philosophy.”
Just as with other audiences, Ms. Ruiz Ferrier and Mr. Pedicino were impressed with everything that unfolded before their eyes.
“There were several scenes (and it is difficult to chose one over the other), but one that was most impressive was the drums [Drummers of the Tang Court]. That was something really nice," she said.
Mr. Pedicino agreed, “They are all very different, each one has its own uniqueness, I couldn’t say that I like one better than another. I perceived them all to be very, very beautiful. Each one has its own message. I loved the young girl who played the erhu [an ancient two-stringed Chinese instrument], I loved the singers, the pianist, the dances, the girls with their flowers, the spring, I couldn’t say.”
Shen Yun will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The show will then return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, performing three shows until July 18.
