BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—Shen Yun put on its seventh performance at Auditorio Belgrano on July 4, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd. Among the more enthusiastic was Inés Hervella, a classical ballerina with the Theatre Colon years ago.
“Perfect, perfect,” she said. “They work their body, and through their bodies they are educating you. You see the movements and they mean the world.”
She had a similar response to the costumes, too: “Fabulous. All the details, the objects, and the jade …” she said, stopping to think. “Why can’t the world represent things like that now?”
Ms. Hervella used to run the Colón Theatre’s ballet school, and later danced on TV and in other theaters.
“I was a classical ballerina, so I appreciate everything all the more, because it was brilliantly done, a technical spectacular, and with an impressive connection, one of happiness.”
What made the biggest impression on the former ballerina was the underlying theme in the show. “There was also a message transmitting peace and love for the world,” she said.
“The message that they are continually transmitting, whether it be the singers, or through the music, is about peace on earth. That we don’t fight, that we unite together, and work for a better world. … because this is how we will triumph, and will become better and better human beings, to live better, and to not destroy the world.”
Would she recommend the show? “To the whole world, the whole planet, to every human being, and all the politicians,” she said.
Shen Yun will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The show will then return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, performing three shows until July 18.
