BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts brings to the stage the ancient stories and values of China's 5,000-year history. The audience at the Auditorio Belgrano in Buenos Aires included two lawyers who were moved by scenes contrasting today's communist China with the great and benevolent dynasties of ancient times.
Mr. Leonhardt, a renowned corporate lawyer, was like so many others deeply touched by the persecution scenes that showed the atrocities in China today yet delivered a message of hope.
"I was greatly moved by the dramatic acts,” he said, referring to "Dignity and Compassion" and "Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope."
These two Shen Yun dances depict the Chinese regime’s current persecution of Falun Gong.
“It really moved me. I felt emotional. One knows only a bit of Chinese history—how dramatic was the Cultural Revolution. And what is happening [the persecution of Falun Gong] is terrible proof. That moved me very much, but really ... I liked everything—really nice. I really liked the show because it is impressive,” Mr. Leonhardt said.
Mr. Cowes, an attorney, was glad to attend the Shen Yun performance and learn about Chinese traditional culture. "I found it excellent. I enjoyed learning about the Chinese classical dances," he said.
He was deeply saddened to hear about the persecution of Falun Gong in China today.
“Most of all, I think it is very important to expose to the world what is happening today, so that people may know through the arts [the true picture],” he said.
"I was impressed to hear what is happening at present in China. I think is very important to make people aware of the situation.”
This is the second time Mr. Cowes had been in the audience of a Shen Yun show. "I saw it once before, and I was very much impressed. I think that all of the acts, the presentations, were very good. The traditions are truly something interesting," he said.
Shen Yun will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The company will return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, performing three shows until July 18.
