BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—Mr. Uberto, a retired businessman, was struck by the richness of Shen Yun—something he did not expect. “It's truly of a magnitude that we don't know,” he said. “So we feel enriched with this contact with the Chinese culture, very happy.”

He attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts show at the Auditorio Belgrano with his wife and an enthusiastic audience. The New York-based performing arts company aims to revive the ancient culture and traditions of China’s 5,000-year-old civilization that was suppressed or eliminated during the Cultural Revolution.

Many of the performances stood out for Mr. Uberto.

“The drums, the masculinity of the male acts, and the femininity of the female acts,” he said. “I was impressed, they are very strong, very rich.”

“I find it excellent,” he said. “It is a culture really different.”

The digital backdrops impressed Mr. Uberto. The backdrops bring classical Chinese dance into the 21st century, giving each scene an added visual depth and grandeur. Each backdrop is custom-designed to match exactly a given dance’s costumes, story line, lighting, and even choreography.

“I had not seen anything like this before, I think it’s interesting, very fitting,” he said. He had received a brochure for the show and was inspired to attend. “We are enjoying it a lot,” he said. “I shall let all my friends know, I only recommend that what I find interesting.”

Shen Yun will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The show will then return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, performing three shows until July 18.
