Thank you so much for covering the City Hall rally for preservation (“Landmarks Commission Asks Mayor to Preserve Its Budget” May 7, 2009) that took place on May 6. More than 75 people from all five boroughs turned out to encourage preservation activity from the city government, including additional resources for the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

The article, however, errs when claiming that the LPC, a municipal agency, organized the rally and has done so for the past three years. The preservation civic community are the organizers for the rally and the public advocates for increased funding and resources for the commission. As a city agency, it is felt it would be inappropriate for the LPC to publicly lobby for more funding—those discussions happen as an internal part of the municipal budget process.

Thank you again for helping raise awareness of this important issue.
