Once again, home runs played a big role in Boston's ninth victory in a row. Just as they had on Friday, when Kevin Youkilis's walk-off homer in the 11th rubberstamped a stirring 5-4 win for the Red Sox.
Mike Lowell supplied the power this time, with the third baseman belting a three-run homer in the seventh to put Boston 12-10 ahead before he added a three-run double in the eighth.
Six home runs were hit in the game, including a grand slam by Boston's Jason Varitek in a five-run fourth inning.
New York had built a 6-0 lead in the fourth on Robinson Cano's two-run homer in the third and a two-run double in the fourth.
Boston got one run back on Jason Bay's RBI single in the fourth and closed within one on Varitek's grand slam.
Jacoby Ellsbury leveled the score at 6-6 on a solo homer for Boston in the fifth before Bay drilled a two-run double.
The Yankees regrouped on Johnny Damon's two-run homer in the sixth and went ahead for the last time at 10-9 on a two-run error by Boston in the seventh.
