SYDNEY, Australia—The Shen Yun Performing Arts company was honored with three curtain calls and prolonged applause during their last show at a packed Parade Theatre in Kensington on Sunday, April 26.
Sydney's audience was delighted that Shen Yun, performed by New-York based artists, brought scenes from 5,000 years of Chinese history through dance, music, and song.
The unique music was a combination of Western and Chinese instruments.
Mr. Jeha, a public accountant and business consultant, shared his impressions of the show. He felt that the show's message should be valued as much today as it was by the ancient Chinese.
"Obviously [China has] a very rich cultural heritage, and many of these values ... we need today."
Mr. Jeha said the spiritual side to human nature is essential and should be put first. "Not what is happening in the world around us, but [we need] to think of eternal life."
The entire show made a deep impression on him.
"[There is] the dynamism of the male dancers. They’re very dynamic.
"Then, you’ve got the incredible beauty of the female dancers and the costumes.
"I suppose it’s just seeing that dance of the yin and yang, the combination together—that yin and yang dynamic is really good to see."
The 3-D backdrop "is quite amazing, [the] computer-generated backing coming into play with the real dancers is quite incredible.
"It's sort of a combination of the ancient with the modern technology, which is what we need. We need to infuse modern life with traditional things. We have technology that is always changing and upgrading so we have to infuse it with the deep roots of having a soul and a valuable life."
One audience member said, "Just the joy on the dancers' faces—just to be alive is a wonderful thing—just to feel the power of your body or the energy in your body and to share that with others is a nice thing, a good thing to see on their faces, and that’s what we need in life ... to be happy, to be alive."
One lady said, "I think it was very good. It’s a very rich culture generally, and I think [China] has gone through many difficult times recently, but it’s very beautiful to see some of the great aspects of the beauty of the dances. The beautiful flower story [The Udumbara's Bloom]—you could really feel the heart and spirit of the beauty of the women, the beauty of life coming from that ... it was very nice to see."
Garry, owner of a finance company, said, "I love the show. It's great!
"I love the little family, the dance with the family [Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution]. That was very touching. I love the drums, the drums are good. It was very emotional. I almost cried."
The show is "unforgettable ... I understood a lot.
