When 27-year old Zhao Liang went to Tianjin Anjie Hospital for an operation on his left foot, doctors discovered that he measured 8-foot-seven-inch feet tall, making him 10 centimeters (3.9 inches) taller than the current tallest man, Bao Xishun.

Mainland Chinese media describes this native of Puyang City as having “mini umbrellas for hands and mini boats for shoes.” Even at the age of 12, Zhao’s typical meal consisted of eight steamed buns and three plates of side dishes.

Zhao’s attending physician said that he is healthy and there are no complications related to his height. Zhao is predicted to be able to resume normal day-to-day activities after a month of recovery.

Zhao’s mom, Wang Keyun told Orient Today that Zhao’s recovery process has been successful. She told the paper that he was careful not to over eat after surgery and “only ate 14 steamed buns for lunch.”

According to Wang, her son was recommended to be on the provincial basketball team at age 17 but suffered an injury during training and had to return to cattle farming. In 2006, Zhao was accepted into a performing arts troupe, but later sprained his foot. Now, he works as their spokesperson.

Wang’s biggest worry is that Zhao is unable to find shoes large enough to fit him. His current athletic shoes have to be purchased in the United States. Wang says that her second biggest worry is about his marriage. She said, “He has not even found a wife. My hair has turned white worrying about it.”

The first thing Zhao intents to do after his discharge is have his height confirmed by the Guinness World Records.
