AMSTERDAM, Netherlands—Ms. de Vlucht, a former model, who even as a grandmother works as a model now and then, noticed the advertisement for the Shen Yun Performing Arts Show on AT5 [Amsterdam Television]. She attended the show with her family on Friday, April 17, at the Rai-Theater. She gained new insights into 5,000 years of Chinese culture. “The show was simply beautiful. The performance, the costumes of the dancers—simply everything. I have never seen such a show before. It was truly beautiful,” said Ms. de Vlucht.

She especially noticed the color combinations of the costumes. “The colors were truly something special. The combination of yellow and pink—simply beautiful.” She also noticed the high quality material of the costumes. “The silk was truly gorgeous.

“I came here especially because of the dances and to look at something beautiful, but I also was able to take something from the culture and Buddhism with me,” said the former model. She is especially interested in dancing, because she used to dance professionally. She toured Holland with a group who performed a kind of Indian-style ballet.

The dance The Udumbara's Bloom impressed her. “That was a successful combination,” she said about the costumes and the moving, changing background. The dancers wear delicate, white sparkling costumes. The background depicts the budding and opening white flowers.

According to ancient lore, the Udumbara flower blooms only every 3,000 years. It heralds the arrival of a great wise person or an enlightened being. The happy message of a sage coming to earth is a good sign that brings much hope. The dancers convey a sense of reverent celebration.

She also responded to the music. “The drums were simply fantastic, especially the program in which the women play the drums. Simply fantastic,” said Ms. de Vlucht.

Women and men play drums in the last performance, Knowing the True Picture Offers Ultimate Hope.
