According to Xinhua news, on the evening of March 19, a shooting occurred near a military camp in Chongqing City. A sentry was killed and his automatic rifle was missing.

The Chinese Communist Party treats this as a major criminal offense and mobilized 148 police experts claiming they will solve the case and arrest the suspect.

On March 20, Xinhua quoted a chief officer of the Chongqing City Public Safety Bureau, “At 7:42 p.m. on March 19, a shooting occurred in front of a Liberation Army camp and a sentry on duty was killed.”

According to a witness, it happened in a building materials market in the Shiqiaopu area. A sentry from the 17th corps was killed and his 81-1 semi-automatic rifle was taken. It was said the rifle was equipped with 30 bullets and two were already used. The attacker quickly vanished.

Because it rarely happens that a soldier is attacked and robbed of his weapon, the Chongqing City government and City Commission went on high alert. Bo Xilai, Secretary of the Chongqing Commission, has instructed the police to solve the case by all means. Xinhua news has deleted all information regarding the events from websites with related information.

According to the Chongqing Evening News, the local public safety bureau had called a meeting. It is heard that the police have mobilized 148 special agents to work on the case. Over 10,000 officers in the city are directly involved.

Based on the report in the Evening News, Liu Kun, the spokesperson of the Chongqing Public Safety Bureau, disclosed that police have called 148 experts specializing in cracking such cases to be directly involved. Some of them were hired out of retirement. This is the largest public safety investigation in Chongqing City's history.
