HONG KONG—Recently, five petitioners from Shanghai came to Hong Kong to participate in the first Conference of the Alliance of Chinese People Suffering from Injustice. They filed a complaint against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for forcefully seizing their homes and property. They announced their withdrawal from the CCP and all its affiliates using their real names.

He Maozhen, a petitioner from Shanghai's Pudong District, has a family member with a disability. Her husband Huang Binjun is a disabled soldier and was given an award of Merit. Unfortunately, after a car accident in 2004, he has been in a vegetative state. They were still living a prosperous life because they had a small house, over a thousand square meters (over 100,000 square feet) of real-estate and other personal assets worth tens of millions of yuan (millions of dollars).

On July 24, 2006, in the middle of the night, the Gongxing township police of the Pudong district, forcefully raided and seized their property. He complained, “They took everything from us and forced us to move. They did not even provide official paperwork or verification of any kind.”

She not only declared her own withdrawal of the CCP but also announced the withdrawal of her husband. She said, “We used to support it (the CCP) very much, but it has brought nothing but disaster to our lives. We are homeless now. My husband and I have made this decision firmly and with determination.”

Shi Yaping, a petitioner from Shanghai's Hongkou District petitioner announced his withdrawal from the Communist Youth League. Other petitioners from Pudong, Liu Lianmei, Bi Heying, and Gu Quangen have all announced their withdrawal from the Communist Young Pioneers.

Liu complained, “The Chinese government publicly stole my property and suppressed me. I went to petition several times, but each time they caught me, sent me back home and kept me detained for over 12 hours with no food and no water. I was alone, so they tortured me in every way they could. I am here to make an appeal.”

Bi claimed that she's now homeless because she was conned into moving by the local government. She has been arrested many times because she tried to petition. She once held a hunger strike for five days but they didn’t even care. She emphasized, “I don’t believe them (the CCP) anymore and I want to withdraw from it firmly.”

Gu said, “I have finally spoken out about my grievances. I am so happy and I feel relieved now, I have no more burdens.”

Shanghai petitioners had to avoid the pursuit of the CCP last Thursday in order to attend the first Conference of Alliance of Chinese People Suffering from Injustice. Some petitioners traveled for more than 36 hours to get to Hong Kong. They said that they were so happy to be able to speak their minds in Hong Kong.
