BOSTON—"They’re completely together. Everything is together. They’re very, very well rehearsed", expressed Ms. Elizabeth Bergmann during intermission at the Boston Opera House on Saturday Jan. 8. Like many who had come to see Divine Performing Arts in action that night, she came away with a deep appreciation for Chinese culture.
"It makes me want to go to China. The dancing's lovely ... very, very beautiful, the costumes are beautiful."
A graduate of the Juilliard School, Ms. Bergmann danced professionally and taught in New York City for José Limón. She is a distinguished choreographer, teacher, and performer.
Divine Performing Arts also offered her an insight into the unique classical Chinese dance style.
"It's very balanced. Everything is towards center. I love the projection ... I liked the men, particularly the drummers - they’re very precise."
Beyond the Chinese technical elements, deep traditional values were expressed, she noticed.
"It doesn't just promote one idea, but just peace and goodwill in general and just ways to think about your life. It's powerful. I like the thoughts and the quality of the pieces."
Divine Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization that seeks to breath new life into traditional Chinese culture.
