TORONTO—For Mr. Bunis, former owner of a well-known clothing chain, the Divine Performing Arts show he attended at Toronto’s John Bassett Theatre on Sunday afternoon held an important message.

“I am going to be a very good boy from now on because I know that someday it will come back to me. That’s what I learned,” he said.

Mr. Bunis once owned and operated one of Buffalo, New York’s most successful chains of clothing stores, initially begun by his mother 80 years ago. The chain was known for being the first to come out with new styles and trends.

“The good you do will come back to you and the bad you do will come back to you,” said his friend Ms. Kearney, a sociology professor who also attended the show.

“So you need to be a good person,” added Mr. Bunis.

“It was very beautiful. I think the dancers were very beautiful., the costumes were very colourful, and the women were all gorgeous.”

The DPA production is a visual feast of classical Chinese dance and ethnic and folk dance performed to original music. Along with the live orchestra that combines Chinese and Western music and instruments, the show also features accomplished solo singers and musicians.

Divine Performing Arts will take the stage twice more in Toronto on Tuesday and Wednesday evening before moving on to New York City’s famed Radio City Music Hall. Divine Performing Arts has two other dance companies currently touring in the United States.
