BOSTON—"Broadway meets history" is how Mrs. Morales described the opening afternoon performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular, held at the Boston Opera House on January 10.
"The music, the dance, the history, the culture - all in one," said the former ballerina, who in the early stages of her dancing career, danced in Tsaikovsky's Nutcracker Ballet.
"The choreography was excellent, and the footwork of the dancers ..." she said searching for the right words, "they're very graceful. I just loved the drums, it was really spectacular. And the costumes were absolutely amazing, all the color—there's a lot of work put into it."
Her husband, Mr. Morales, said that Chinese traditional culture was brought to life in a performance of spirited dance, ancient folk tales and music that blended Western and Eastern instruments in harmonious balance.
"The culture - so bright, so alive - different from anything I've seen," the chief financial officer said. "The operatic tenor was phenomonal. A very professional, high-quality event. A lot of work, a lot of effort went into it, I can tell."
Summarising, Mr Morales said the show was "a great combination of performing arts of historical and cultural exposure.
"So the whole thing about spirituality, the whole thing about morality, combined with tidbits of different regions of China and how they’re different, made it really special.”
