Two people died and others were seriously wounded in a bomb attack in Xinjiang Province, China, August 27. The attack was directed at police in Jiash County, Kashi Prefecture, according to an AFP report.
Prior to and during the Olympics there were several bomb attacks on police and security personnel in Xinjiang. The Chinese regime accused the attackers of being Uighur “separatists” and Islam extremists, and claimed them to pose a serious terrorist threat. Uighurs argued that the event stemmed from the regime’s high pressure policies in the region.
As of August 28 there had been no report on the attack in official Chinese media.
On August 4, 16 were left dead when two Uighurs attacked a group of police on training detail, with bomb and knives.
On August 10, a series of bomb attacks occurred in Kupa, an ancient city on the Silk Road. The police said that ten attackers including a woman, plus a policeman and a pedestrian were killed by the explosion.
Two days later four police were attacked at a highway checkpoint near Yamanya County, three died.
The regime accused Xinjiang separatists of disturbing the Beijing Olympics.
The World Uighur Congress spokesman Dilshat Rishit said that the regime had launched 150 large scale investigations under the pretext of Olympic security, and had already arrested more than 500 people.
