The incident has already been termed “5.26,” in line with the Chinese tradition of numerical abbreviations for dates of significance.
Reports suggest that a farmer named Qiang Mingqi, 52, was responsible for rigging the bombs, having become extremely disgruntled with the way his complaints to the authorities had been handled. Qiang lived in the area and had no fixed job or residence, reports said. He is confirmed dead, according to the state mouthpiece media Xinhua.
The Jiangxi Province public security apparatus says they are working hard on cracking the case. They say they are “putting all efforts into doing well social stability work,” which refers to damage-control measures aimed at minimizing anti-Party sentiment among the public.
