TAIPEI, Taiwan–On Nov. 25, a week after the publication of his new book Taiwan Disaster, Yuan Hongbing held a press conference in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan. He said that Taiwan’s democracy has become a major threat to communist China, and the regime has made elaborate plans to deal with Taiwan.

Yuan, a former law professor and a democracy activist, is currently living in exile in Australia. He explained that the freedom and democracy enjoyed by the people of Taiwan forms a strong contrast to the political situation in China. Its existence has influenced the thinking of China’s 1.5 billion people, becoming a serious threat to the Chinese Communist regime.

According to Yuan, Chinese leader Hu Jintao wants to accomplish something historical before he steps down. “The truth is, the Chinese Communist regime is preparing to unite Taiwan with China by infiltrating Taiwan’s politics, economy, culture, and social activities. By gradually taking control in all these areas, the communist regime plans to eliminate Taiwan’s democratic system,” Yuan said.

Yuan says he uncovered the Chinese regime’s complex machinations to infiltrate the Kuomintang, a pro-China nationalist party, as well as other strata of society.

Yuan writes that all strategic orders come directly from Chinese leaders Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao. These are alleged to include helping high-ranking members of the Kuomintang purchase real estate in China, cutting off the economic resources of the DPP (a pro-independent party), luring business in China to become public in Taiwan, controlling Taiwan’s stock market, purchasing large amounts of agricultural products from Taiwan, and allowing Chinese tourists to visit Taiwan.

Yuan provides insider information on a series of sensitive issues, including former Taiwanese president Chen Shuibian’s money laundering. He also discloses secret documents from the regime’s top-ranking officials, including conversations of high-ranking officials.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Chen Ting-fei also spoke at the press conference. “Why is it that Professor Yuan can have so much information and our National Security Council and National Security Bureau cannot? We are meeting with China’s high-ranking officials such as President Hu Jintao and Chen Yunlin [chairman of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits], yet we have none of this information at hand,” Chen said.

Chen asked that Su Chi, the National Security Council Secretary General, explain the source of the Council’s information and stop negotiating with the Chinese regime. “Before the Council can gather and confirm its own information and explain it to the legislators, it should stop meeting with Chen Yunlin and halt all negotiations with China,” Chen said.

Shortly after the book was published Yuan was contacted privately by both DPP legislators and Kuomintang members, who hoped to learn more about the Chinese regime’s schemes, he told The Epoch Times before the press conference.

Some bookstores are refusing to carry Yuan’s book–he says it’s because of fear democratic Taiwan feels toward totalitarian China.

Yuan is concerned that he will be blacklisted and refused entry to Taiwan now that the book has been published, and gave the example of Li Dayong, the Executive Chair of the Global Service Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party, who applied to come to Taiwan four weeks ago but whose application is still in limbo.

DPP legislator Wang Sing-Nan asked Taiwan to protect Yuan’s safety, worried that the Chinese Communist Party would take action against Yuan for publishing its secret documents. “[Yuan] sees the highest values of mankind and believes the people in Taiwan should not have the same fate [as the people in communist China]. He has warned us, and we thank him,” Wang said.

The book Taiwan Disaster is published by Taiwan News. The book was sold out a week after its debut on Nov. 21. The second printing of 10,000 books was completed on Nov. 26.
