Dear shareholders and employees of Eutelsat,
As a citizen of mainland China and a loyal viewer of New Tang Dynasty TV (NTDTV), I’m writing this letter to share with you my thoughts on Eutelsat’s termination of NTDTV's broadcasting to China about half a year ago.
A closer look at the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)
It is common sense that when we look for a business partner, we have to check the partner’s financial status and reputation. That is, if a company is insolvent or has a bad reputation, it cannot be a safe and trustworthy partner. Unfortunately, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)—the partner Mr. Giuliano Berretta [CEO of Eutelsat]—chose to do business with, is both insolvent and notorious.
Let’s first look at the CCP’s debts
The CCP’s official data released in September 2008 indicates that the CCP currently controls foreign exchange reserves amounting US$2,000 billion. But the regime is less articulate about the debt it owes. By debt, I’m not only talking about the money the CCP borrowed, but also the human lives it owes to Chinese people. An estimated 60 to 80 million Chinese have died unnatural deaths in political upheavals during the CCP’s 50-year reign, a figure higher than the total population of France, and higher than the total death toll in the two world wars. How can the CCP pay that back?
Behind these deaths lie countless family breakdowns and tragedies. Sadly, such tragedies are still going on in China. Just look at the thousands of children buried under shoddy school buildings in the earthquake due to poor quality construction approved by corrupt CCP officials. Look at the hundreds of thousands infants who developed kidney stones from drinking toxic milk. Nobody knows whether the $2,000 billion foreign exchange reserve, which supposedly belongs to Chinese citizens but now is held by the CCP, would be enough to pay back the endless pain of the victims and their families. So far, the CCP has shown no regret, not apologized, and not paid any compensation for what it has done. All the regime did was to deny its crimes.
Next let’s talk about the CCP’s reputation
Before the Beijing Olympic Games, the CCP promised to improve human rights in mainland China. What’s the real situation in China? From the end of 2007 to August 2008, especially near the opening of Olympic Games, the CCP, executed well-organized actions, arrested activists such as human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng and AIDS activist Hu Jia, as well as suppressed petitioners, dissidents, Tibetans, house church members, Falun Gong practitioners, and other religious groups.
Meanwhile, the regime took pains to create an illusion of “safe Olympics” in its propaganda, in spite of such escalated persecution. Beijing was heavily guarded with police and military forces, mostly to monitor and control curious foreign reporters. Also heavily guarded was the Internet in which all “negative” news was filtered out. News such as the lethal contamination of milk powder was covered up until after the Olympic Games. The CCP knew very well that the cost of the cover-up would be that millions of infants would drink toxic milk for one more month, but obviously the regime couldn’t care less. It stops at nothing to tighten its control over the country.
It should not be too difficult to imagine the consequences of collaborating with a regime that bears more blood debt than it can ever repay, which has been long known for lacking credibility. A recent example would be the New Zealand dairy cooperative Fronterra, which fell victim to the CCP—its partner in China, Sanlu Group, a state-owned enterprise, was found to have been intentionally adding melamine to its dairy products.
Your choice between decency and money
Europe has a long history and heritage of upholding universal values such as freedom, equality and human rights. The movie “Schindler’s List” exemplified to the world such noble spirit. When Schindler risked his life to save Jews, he was also saving his own soul, and setting an example for the world to follow conscience. History has proved again and again that true wisdom lies in choosing decency and conscience over material profits, because the former is always more powerful and more respectable. Glory to such wise people! For a business, sticking to ethical principles will be the ground for prosperity.
In communist China, an empire built on lies and hypocrisy, people need and long for a voice of truth! In the face of cruel persecution from the CCP, numerous brave and wise people like Hu Jia and Gao Zhisheng have stood up and spoken for truth. Independent media such as New Tang Dynasty Television are also active in spreading the truth. Such voices of truth should and will last long, and become louder and louder, until the CCP is buried by its own lies.
As a Chinese struggling under the CCP’s violence and lies, I treasure such truthful voices. I know clearly about the evil nature of the CCP and its tricks of sticks and carrots. It not only uses such tricks on its own people, but also on people in other parts of the world. I hope you could see through the regime’s tricks, and I hope you would help independent and conscientious media like NTDTV spread truths across China.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
