The alleged female suspect involved in the shooting police chase that started at the White House and ended at Capitol Hill had a child, or possibly a baby, in her car.
CNN and WJLA reported that the woman attempted to ram a White House barricade, prompting Secret Service and police to chase her several blocks to Capitol Hill
The woman then sped around the area before officers shot the vehicle, killing her, NBC reported. However, AP reported that it is unclear if the woman was armed.
Capitol Police Chief Kim Dine said that the shooting is an isolated incident and not terrorism-related.
A lockdown was put into effect at the Capitol building, including the House and Senate chambers. It was later lifted around at half an hour later at 2:55 p.m.
House and Senate officials tweeted during the incident, saying they heard gunfire.
“Shots fired outside the Capitol. We are in temporary lock down,” Sen. Claire McKaskill wrote.
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard wrote on Twitter: “On lockdown down in my office. Tracking down my staff. Alarms sounding. Shots fired outside US.”
The suspect’s car was described as a dark, two-door sedan.
A police officer was injured in the incident.
