The first victim on Monday was shot at a demonstration in Luhuo County in Ganzhi State in Sichuan Province. At a demonstration Tuesday, held out of concern for happened the on Monday, two more people were shot and killed by regime security forces in Seda County in Ganzhi State.

According to information given Radio Free Asia (RFA) by a Tibetan in Seda and broadcast on Jan. 25, thousands of Tibetans gathered and filled every corner of the square by 10 in the morning. Worried about the conflict in Luhuo County, they started to protest and shout slogans such as “Long Live the Dalai Lama” and “Chinese Immigrants Leave Tibet.” Some showed a banner saying “We Oppose the Chinese Government’s Tibet Policy.”

According to RFA, Chinese armed police and troops rushed to the scene, blocked the entries to the square, fired tear gas into the crowd, and then opened fire, with 30 said to have been injured.

On Jan. 25, the state-mouthpiece Xinhua also broadcast an account of the clash in Seda. According to the Xinhua account, the police fired in self-defense.

At the same time that the murders of the Tibetans were being reported, an article appeared suggesting skepticism among the Chinese people for at least one aspect of the regime’s Tibetan policy.

The Zhongxin News Agency reported on reactions to a campaign by the CCP to promote itself among Tibetans by sending CCP flags and pictures of CCP leaders to villages, families, and temples. More than 1 million flags and leaders’ portraits were reported to have been delivered. A survey done on the Chinese QQ Website with 15,762 people responding had 62 percent saying they felt “angry” and 21 percent “funny” about the campaign.

Sixteen Tibetans in Sichuan Province have immolated themselves in the past year in protest of the Chinese regime’s rule.
