At Heathrow Airport in London recently, a Chinese lady traveler passed by a young Chinese man. She decided to hand him a flyer explaining what Falun Gong is and how this peaceful practice is persecuted in China. The young man immediately took it and skimmed over it before returning it to the lady, saying, “Thank you, but you can keep this for someone else.”

The lady was disappointed, thinking that he was politely dismissing it.

The young man sensed the lady’s disappointment and said with a smile, “Auntie, we are never short of these at home in China. In the building where I live, we often receive flyers and CDs. Whenever we see them, we take them and watch them. Over the years we have learned many facts, and we’ve even watched the Shen Yun DVDs. Everyone knows that Falun Gong practitioners deliver them.”

Wanting him to know about the growing tide of Chinese people withdrawing from the Communist Party’s organizations, she asked if he had performed the “three withdrawals”. He replied, “A long time ago! I already quit the Young Pioneers.”

The lady was happy for the young man. She went on to remind him that if one has joined the Communist Party or Youth League, he or she must make an open declaration to renounce their membership, thus stepping away from the Party. She added that this was not a trivial issue as it concerned the future of each individual, and should be taken seriously.

He said that he never really joined the Communist Party or the Youth League, and explained that even as a student, he was clear headed enough to understand that it would do him no good to join the Youth League.

The young man said that his hometown is a small village in Hubei Province with about a thousand families, and that his own family quit the Party organizations six or seven years ago. In addition, he knew that his aunt and uncle living in another town had also quit, and many of his close friends and classmates had all quit as well. He said, “I think the whole village has already quit!”

Before they parted, the young man thanked the lady and told her that he thinks Falun Gong practitioners are all kind and trustworthy. The lady graciously thanked him in return.
