Ottawa’s Fairmont Château Laurier hotel hosted Canadian parliamentarians, world diplomats, and other guests for Taiwan’s National Day celebrations on Oct. 3, 2012.

Greeting the audience in Mandarin, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Jason Kenney (3rd L) took the opportunity to reiterate the strength of Canada’s relationship with Taiwan based on common values of freedom, human rights, democracy and the rule of law. On Oct. 10, known as “Double Ten Day,” Taiwan celebrates the start of the Wuchang Uprising in October 1911 that led to the fall of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China on Jan. 1, 1912.
