A leaked Pentagon report claims the Lockheed Martin F-35 is plagued by severe technical problems and could be easily shot down.
Problems include broken radars and blurry vision through the specially designed helmet pilots are to wear in the jet.
“The out-of-cockpit visibility in the F-35A is less than other Air Force fighter aircraft,” reads the U.S. Defense Department’s Directorate of Operational Test and Evaluation report.
The report comes as Ottawa reviews its planned purchase of 65 of the jets.
The ongoing controversy surrounding the purchase has seen it become a political liability for the Conservatives and the focus of reports from the Parliamentary Budget Officer and Auditor General due to cost overruns.
In the Pentagon report, pilots decried the lack of visibility in the jet, with one saying, “Aft visibility will get the pilot gunned every time.”
