UPDATE as of 4:32 p.m: The National Weather Service lifted the tornado warning in Massachusetts, and issued a flash flood warning for central and northern Essex County.

UPDATE as of 4:18 p.m: Danvers, Peabody, and Manchester residents should seek shelter due to a dangerous storm, Fox 25 reported.

There were several unconfirmed reports of tornadoes--including a “pretty big” one--in Massachusetts and Connecticut after a warnings were issued. Reports said that a funnel cloud struck in Danvers, Mass.

The Weather Channel said via its Twitter feed there was “funnel cloud reported at 2:58 p.m. ET near Danvers, Mass.”

“Trained weather spotters have reported a funnel cloud near Danvers. Tornado could form any time, per National Weather Service,” tweeted the Boston Globe.

A tornado warning will remain in effect in Essex and Middlesex Counties in Massachusetts until 4:30 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Officials recommend that locals go to a basement or a secure windowless room on the bottom floor.

Residents in Danvers and nearby areas tweeted about the tornado.

“I’ve been stuck in the danvers target for wayyy to long, damn you tornado JUST LET ME LEAVE,” wrote user Stacy Howe.

Another Twitter user in Danvers posted an image, showing what appears to be flooding after rainfall.

Glenn Field, with the National Weather Service, told the Boston Herald that a “pretty big” tornado may have touched down in East Windsor, Conn., earlier in the day.

The purported tornado apparently flipped over a box truck near Wal-Mart, according to MassLive.com.

“It appears that there was a tornado. We’re going to take a look at the damage. There were trucks overturned and a car smashed into a Walmart... It hasn’t been confirmed that it was a tornado but whatever it was, it was strong,” Field told the Herald.
