SUWON, Korea—On the evening on Feb. 17, Professor Kim Sun-Ja went to the Gyeonggi Arts Center Grand Theater to watch New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts’ first performance in Korea.

Ms. Kim very much enjoyed the Dance of the Dai. "I saw a beauty that transcends all times. Every artist was extraordinary. I have seen many dance performances and Shen Yun's show is certainly of high quality."

She was also impressed with the unique ethnic dances such as the Miao and Tibetan dances.

“In the dance In a Miao Village, the artists’ graceful movements and the melodious sounds are still lingering in front of me and in my ears. The white ribbons on the ladies’ pleated skirts looked very traditional and fully manifested the characteristic of the Miao people.”

Impressed with the Tibetan Dance of Praise, she noted the white tassels on the costumes floating as they danced and said, "With the fast tempo, the dance made me feel light and lively.”

As for the dances depicting the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Kim believed that for any society to develop healthily, “it must acknowledge the existence of every group and keep them in balance. There are many problems in China currently.”

Ms. Kim thinks what makes Shen Yun’s show stand out is the charming classical Chinese dances and the beauty of Chinese culture from ancient to modern time. It includes the rich and colorful cultural art of all ethnicities in China.

“I see the beauty in different space and times.”

Ms. Kim wished Shen Yun could perform in Seoul next year because more people would get to see the show.

After watching the show, Lee Jung-Chan, Director of the Seoul Nambu News, was very pleased. He claimed that he had seen “the long streaming culture of the East.” “Brilliant performance, the best I have seen,” said Mr. Lee.

Mr. Lee was most impressed with the male soloist. “His voice made me hold my breath. It was truly moving,” he said.

He was also amazed by how artistic the dances were. “I think perhaps [Chinese dances] is where Korean dances come from. I see the origin of Eastern culture in today’s show.”

Mr. Lee heard about Shen Yun from his friends several years ago. He was glad to have seen it for himself. "I will recommend the show to my friends and I want to come back again.”

"The essence of Eastern culture has engraved in my memory after today,” concluded Mr Lee.
