ROCHESTER, New York—Dr. Adam Urbanski, the president of the Rochester Teachers Association, praised Shen Yun Performing Arts for its educational value and portrayal of Chinese culture after watching the dance company perform at the Rochester Auditorium Theatre on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 28.

"This is what we are trying to teach our students at school," he said.

Dr. Urbanski is a former high school teacher and college professor and has also be involved in a number of other organizations as an executive member, including the American Federation of Teachers.

Shen Yun's presentation of classical Chinese performing arts and millennia-old, rich history and culture of China impressed the educator.

"We like the show very much, because we are learning about a culture that we don't know very much about," Dr. Urbanski said.

He said that he would recommend the show to his friends because "it's a beautiful show with beautiful dancing and music, and a lot of information about the culture of the largest country in the world."

Dr. Urbanski's daughter, Lisa, who is also a teacher, also marvelled at the show.

"It's beautiful scenery, and [the] costumes are really amazing," she said.

Another teacher at the show, Mr. Steven Choy, also said he highly enjoyed the show.

"I thought it was great; it was a lot of fun. The costuming was unbelievable," he said.

Ms. Karen Choy, a makeup artist, said that the costumes were her favourite part. All of the Shen Yun costumes are hand-made.

"How they used the costumes to create the movements and shapes, I just thought that was beautiful, stunning," she said.

"When they turned, the costumes would just fan out. It was really beautiful."

Watching the show, Ms. Choy was overcome with a feeling of "euphoria."

"It's uplifting and happy," she said.

Knowing that Shen Yun will be returning to the Buffalo area, Mr. Choy said he would recommend to his friends to see the show.
