FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—On Tuesday Jan. 26, Shen Yun Performing Arts made its first stop in Florida with a performance at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

After the show, one audience member, Ms. Abecassis, shared her reaction. “Everything was perfect, beyond expectations, really,” were the words she used to describe Shen Yun.

Former fashion designer and activity manager, Ms. Abecassis had been anticipating Shen Yun’s arrival in Fort Lauderdale. After seeing a newspaper ad she decided to attend and bring others to see Shen Yun perform. “I couldn’t wait to come and see it,” she said.

She noted the brilliant costumes used in Shen Yun’s performances. “Oh, the colors were unbelievable. And the fabrics, ah! Just flowing, everything, and the balance—everything was just perfect.”

“I was a fashion designer for many years, so I did appreciate the costumes tremendously and colors and fabrics.”

But it was not only the fabrics and costumes that struck her. “Everything was just very well-balanced, between the performance with the piano, the solo, the singer, and then all the dances. Everything was done so perfectly I couldn’t ask for more, really,” she said.

Complementing the dance, Shen Yun uses technically innovative 3-D backdrops to more vividly present the setting of the dances. In some dances, performers visually enter by way of the backdrop screen, appearing to be coming down from far off realms.

Ms. Abecassis enjoyed this dimension of the performance as well. “The background, that was unbelievable. I mean, like the characters coming out–and coming out on the stage. The combination of technology and old culture was great.”

Working now as an activity manager at an assisted living facility, Ms. Abecassis convinced 25 ladies to join her in attending Shen Yun.

“I brought a group and they told me ‘put my name down for next year’–all the ladies, they don’t want to miss it. We’re planning to come back next year,” she said.

The second of two shows in Ft. Lauderdale will be held on Jan. 27, at the same venue, followed by St. Petersburg, with two performances on Jan. 29 at the Mahaffey Theater, and Jacksonville, Jan. 30 and 31, at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.
