FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Mayor Richard Kaplan and first lady Lynn Kaplan of the city of Lauderhill took in Shen Yun Performing Arts’ opening show in Fort Lauderdale at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday night.
This was the second time the couple were attending a Shen Yun show, and they admired it as much as they did last year.
“I think it’s very nice, very enjoyable,” said the mayor.
“The performers and the musicians are doing an excellent job, very colorful, very lively.”
Mrs. Kaplan agreed. “It’s beautiful, beautiful production, very talented [performers],” she said, and joking that “I’m jealous I can’t dance like that!”
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts presents classical Chinese dance and music in stunningly beautiful and colorful shows, astounding audiences from different backgrounds and age groups around the globe.
Noting this facet of Shen Yun, Mrs. Kaplan said that, “what I noticed and what I loved is to come to a show that appeals to so many different ages, it really goes across all age boundaries, and I like that, it appeals to a massive people rather than one sector of people.
“It’s beautiful, beautiful, we’re enjoying the show,” she said.
Mayor Kaplan said that there are many people of Chinese ethnicity in South Florida, and so he enjoyed “seeing the roots of their culture.”
“We enjoy it very much,” he concluded.
