CHIAYI, Taiwan—Hong Quanxiu, professor at the Department of Applied Foreign Languages of the National Yunlin University of Science & Technology, watched the third performance of the New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts in Chiayi. He said in delight and excitement, “Shen Yun is indeed remarkable!”

Professor Hong delightfully enumerated the programs he remembered. “Like ‘Mongolian Hospitality’, ‘In a Miao Village’, and Imperial Archers, each of them is very terrific! I enjoyed them! If I want to talk about the most impressive one, it should be The Buddha’s Teachings Spread Far and Wide. It’s very awe-inspiring! Shen Yun must have transcended beyond religion, beyond the border of time and space. It’s very terrific!”

Professor Hong was particularly touched by the program Splitting the Mountain about the goddess San Sheng Mu, who descended down to the human world. “I am deeply moved by the implied meaning of the program. Goddess San Sheng Mu was condemned to mortality in violation of the heavenly law. She married a scholar in the human world and had a son. With the backdrop perfectly integrating into the performance, the filial obedience of the son is fully displayed in the program.”

Professor Hong said that his parents-in-law had watched Shen Yun last year, but he missed it. This year he read relevant reports in the Epoch Times. Besides, the recommendation from his students intrigued him. As a result, he bought six tickets to the show for him and his family.

As for the performance by the solo musicians, he said, “The solo musicians performed very well, displaying their own features. It’s quite worth the money! One relative of mine is also learning vocal performance. Therefore, I have been in contact with similar performances. They (the Shen Yun solo musicians) are really terrific! Very good! I also enjoy the erhu performance by Xiaochun Qi, whose performing skill is superior!”

He particularly admired the dance which displayed femininity. He said, “I am touched by Shen Yun’s commitment to reviving ancient Chinese culture. If I had more expertise in this aspect, I would have more and acuter feelings of the show. I also told my daughter that women should be as feminine as the Shen Yun female dancers.”

As for the tightly-scheduled program of Shen Yun, Professor Hong said, “If there is any adjective to describe it, I will choose ‘remarkable.’ With so many performers involved and such a tightly-scheduled program, it’s indeed remarkable! Shen Yun is indeed remarkable!”
