BRISBANE, Australia—Tamara Pearson a professional dancer attended the opening Shen Yun Performing Arts show at the Lyric Theatre on Tuesday June 1. She was full of praise, and she expressed her feelings after the show.
“I really enjoyed the show, I thought it inspired me as a performer and it also made me reconnect and think about my background and my cultural beliefs and how I feel about a higher purpose.”
Ms. Pearson has been trained in traditional and contemporary aboriginal dance, and she thought Shen Yun's portrayal of traditional Chinese culture was, “beautiful, very delicate, very feminine, and also very strong.”
Shen Yun performs stunningly choreographed dances complemented by an orchestral fusion of Western and Chinese instruments like the 2-stringed erhu and the pipa. The New York based company also has thought provoking story-based dances.
Two of these story- based dances raise awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual meditation discipline that has faced an over ten year long persecution under the Chinese communist regime.
“I like the telling of the story about the persecution.” said Ms. Pearson, adding that she also “loved the singing, that really touched on the beliefs and how people feel.”
She appreciated the music noting the Shen Yun Orchestra which is touring with the company for the first time.
“The music was great, it was very powerful, it was nice to have a live orchestra as well, I haven’t actually been to a show where there has been a live orchestra before, besides a didgeridoo, it was a different experience.”
Ms. Pearson also enjoyed the singers with piano accompaniment.
“Very powerful, very powerful, amazing, amazing,” she said.
Ms. Pearson said she would recommend the show to her friends, and describe it to them as, “Very vibrant, very spiritual, and something that is worthwhile to see.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company will present two more shows at Brisbane's Lyric Theatre Wednesday, June 2, at 1.30 pm and 7.30 p.m. For more information visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
