NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—Ms. Luo, who recently arrived from China, attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts presentation of classical Chinese dance and music held at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on Oct. 28.
Ms. Luo first heard about the world-acclaimed New York-based Shen Yun back in China, but for her seeing is believing.
“I never imagined I would see dance of such high quality and skill,” she said praising the Friday evening performance.
Ms. Luo has met many Chinese artists during the course of her occupation and is familiar with the skill level of many dance groups. She felt that Shen Yun’s dancers would surpass even China’s most prestigious.
She pointed out that one of the most difficult aspects of dance is the synchronization.
“Shen Yun’s dancers are rare in that they all move as if they are one person. It is astonishing how these dancers can grasp the bearing of form of Chinese dance so well. They have already achieved in their 20′s what most professional performers achieve in a decade on stage and through life-experience.”
Ms. Luo said the ethnic dances had left a deep impression having lived amongst the Miao villagers.
“Shen Yun dancers have precisely portrayed their style of dress and movement. Only the purest form of ethnic culture can become international. Shen Yun really displays the ethnic essence of Chinese culture,” she said.
In conclusion, Ms. Luo added, “The costumes, choreography, music, and dancers’ skill must all reach perfection for a show to truly amaze people. Shen Yun has achieved this.”

“Everything in Shen Yun, whether it is the costumes, colors, the use of backdrops, or the dance, music, and choreography, unite harmoniously. Even the transitions between the numbers were perfect. It was a joy to watch.”
Mr. Shen said that it was very rare to see such traditional cultural shows like Shen Yun these days. He believes that Shen Yun has chosen the right path, to promote traditional values and pure Chinese culture in the Western society.
He has traveled to China in previous years to teach music, adding that one cannot see such pure and refreshing performances like Shen Yun. Mr. Shen believes that Shen Yun’s efforts can teach more people to appreciate the value of classical traditional.
At present, Mr. Shen is the conductor of the Rutgers University Queen’s Chorale. He has taught at the Tunghai University in Taiwan and conducted for the National Taiwan University Chorus.
