Seth MacFarlane told the Oscars that his all-time favorite movies are “The Sound of Music,” “Defending Your Life,” and “From Justin to Kelly,” in that order.
He said that those are the three movies that will stand the test of time for him.
“The Sound of Music,” is the 1965 classic musical directed by Robert Wise, starring Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, and Eleanor Parker, about a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to the seven children of a naval officer widower.
“Defending Your Life,” is a 1991 romantic comedy-fantasy film directed by Albert Brooks, staring Albert Brooks, Meryl Streep, and Rip Torn. The film is about a man, Daniel Miller, who dies in a car accident and arrives in the afterlife. There, he has to go to trial and prove his worth before going on to the next phase of life. Otherwise, he has to go back to Earth.
In the meantime, Daniel falls in love with Julia, played by Meryl Streep. Julia seemingly lived a life of generosity and kindness, compared to Daniel’s.
“From Justin to Kelly,” is a 2003 romantic comedy musical film directed by Robert Iscove, starring Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini. The film is about a lonely young man and a depressed young lady. They go to summer camp and fall in love.
