Kara DioGuardi, a judge on American Idol until the end of last season, will be a judge on a new music talent show on Bravo.
DioGuardi will be the head panelist for the show Going Platinum, which is a competition for singer-songwriters set to debut in 2011. The show was formerly known as Hitmakers.
Singer-songwriter Jewel will also serve as one of the judges on the program, which will initially show 10 episodes.
“I am excited to be a part of this show because as a songwriter, I understand the dedication and struggle these musicians are going through,” Jewel said in a statement on Bravo’s website. “This series will showcase the passion, talent and determination it requires to become a hit songwriter, and in the end we will find the next big music star.”
The show won’t just show contestants covering songs as in American Idol, but will feature musicians performing their own songs.
The winner of the contest will get a $100,000 prize, a recording deal with RCA/JIVE, and a publishing deal.
“Hit songs are the backbone of the music industry, and as a publisher, nothing excites me more than finding new songwriting talent,” DioGuardi told Entertainment Weekly. “I am happy to be a part of a show that helps up-and-coming songwriters pursue their dreams, while giving the public a look into the creative process.”
