HBO has canceled “Enlightened,” which was critically acclaimed but got low ratings,” it was reported Wednesday.

“It was a very difficult decision,” HBO said in a statement, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve decided not to continue Enlightened for a third season. We’re proud of the show, and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future.”

The half-hour show, created by White and Dern, focused on a self-destructive executive Amy Jellicoe (Dern) who attempts to get her life together. Dern won a Golden Globe for best TV comedy actress for the role last year.

The show’s January premiere drew around 300,000 viewers, up from 200,000 when it made its debut in 2011, reported the Los Angeles Times.

However, viewership in the second season dropped, getting just 130,000 the week before its finale, according to The New York Times.
