Authors and artists gathered at Toronto’s Ritz-Carleton hotel on Oct. 30 to celebrate the Giller Awards, Canada’s most prestigious literary award for English fiction.
Calgary author Will Ferguson won the $50,000 award for his mystery novel “419.” A bestselling travel writer and Leacock Medal winner for humour, Ferguson wore a kilt to the event.
During his acceptance speech, he drew a flask from his sporran and invited those present to join him in “a toast to the written word.”
The Giller Prize was established in 1994 by Toronto businessman Jack Rabinovitch in memory of his late wife, literary journalist Doris Giller.
