FRANKFURT, Germany—Saturday, Feb. 26, was the opening night of the once-again much anticipated Shen Yun Performing Arts performance in the birthplace of the poet Goethe. The outstanding skills of the presenting artists -- musicians, dancers, singers, soloists, costumers and backdrop technicians -- rose to new heights in portraying 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. Their renaissance presentation was the kick-off event for the Touring Company's European engagements of its 2011 World Tour.
Many of the segments moved the audience members greatly, such as the vignettes of traditional culture in various regions of ancient China, and the dance presentation Our Story, bringing to life the present persecution of Falun Dafa. Several attendees voiced their appreciation for an opportunity to learn of the ban of the spiritual practice, Falun Dafa.
Individual show-goers, like husband and wife Mr. and Mrs. Krommes had come on invitation of a Frankfurt jewelry shop owner.
"We came home from our holidays four days early," said Ms. Krommes. They did not regret this decision for a minute.
"We learned a lot about China," said Mr. Krommes CEO of the American electronics company Hamlin, located in Germany.
Both alluded to the excellence of the synchronized dances, the elaborate costumes, the gorgeous instrumental music and singers' solos, as well as the coordinating backdrops.
"We can only recommend this show to anyone," said Biochemist Ralf Voss, who had come to see this show with his teenage daughter. His daughter was most impressed with the costumes, which she will not forget for quite some time, while her father remarked on the harmony exuded throughout the show.
Another audience member summed the evening up in one sentence -- "The presentations went directly to our souls."
